30 Holidays in June
*6-Minute Read*
June isn't known as a holiday-filled month... but it is. There is at least one holiday (usually multiple) on each day of the month. Even though the Coronavirus is limiting our fun right now, here's some summer celebrations to have:
The first day of the month is Oscar's birthday. Ironically, yet true to character, he's at his grouchiest. In his view, the best part about having a birthday is that you wait a whole year until the next one.
3rd = National Repeat Day
People are encouraged to do good things redundantly, like telling yourself positive affirmations. Though, I wonder how many people just want to use this day as an excuse to annoy others.

It's safe to assume that a cat lover invented this holiday. After all, ancient Egyptians worshiped cats, so cat owners have no excuse for not showing their furry friend some love.
5th = National Donut Day
This holiday has been celebrated since 1938, and it is in honor of the Salvation Army members who provided donuts to soldiers during World War 1. And unlike Leave the Office Early Day, some donut shops do recognize this holiday by giving the food away for free.
6th = National Eyewear Day
This will be the 5th annual National Eyewear Day, which reflects upon how glasses have evolved from solely a necessity into a fashion accessory.

7th = National VCR Day
DVDs have made them obsolete, so this is the day to rewind to the 1990s. However, those who have thrown out their VCR player are out of luck; the last manufacturer stopped production in 2016.
8th = National Best Friends Day
Why isn't this widely celebrated? Mother's Day and Father's Day are well-known, and our best friends are practically family members.

9th = Call Your Doctor Day
It's the second Tuesday of the month, which is the best day for women to call their doctor to schedule a check-up. Although the focus is on female annual wellness exams, males should also get yearly check-ups and everyone battling a health issue should be seen.

10th = National Black Cow Day
Okay, the gif is a little misleading. I just found it humorous. The focus is not on the animal, it is on the "black cow" beverage (aka, root beer float).
11th = National Corn on the Cob Day
This gif is only slightly misleading, as corn can't dance. The food holiday is held on this day because it is picnic season.
12th = Loving Day
I guess this day is dedicated to everybody; we've all have a klutzy moment in the kitchen, right? I immediately think of that Worst Cooks in America show on the Food Network. Also, this holiday would be even more fitting on a Friday the 13th (it's on Saturday this year).
14th = National Bourbon Day
This day reflects on "America's native spirit," which only adds to its resurgence in popularity. Hey, it's a fair excuse to have a drink!
15th = National Smile Power Day
It is a day that brings awareness to the health benefits of smiling. For example, a grin increases likability and relieves stress.
16th = National Fudge Day
Quite simply, this holiday is a time to indulge in this chocolatey treat without feeling guilty. It's one of my favorite desserts!
It's time to undo the fudge consumed the day before! Unsurprisingly, the holiday's goal is to encourage people to eat more veggies.
18th = National Splurge Day
Adrienne Sioux Koopersmith created this holiday, because she wanted an alternative to "the two-faced holidays where a person has to show up at a relative's or put on a happy face; or buy a present or do something only because it is part of the Fabric of Modern Life." So, buy what you want on your terms.

19th = Garfield The Cat Day
It will be the 42nd anniversary of the comic strip featuring one of the most famous cats in pop culture. It will also be said cat's birthday. Garfield can now can be seen in books, TV, and even the Guinness Book of World Records.
20th = Summer Solstice
This day marks the longest day of sunlight all year, as well as the beginning of summer. Why is it sunnier than ever? Because the sun's path is the farthest north in the Northern Hemisphere.
22nd = National Take Your Cat to Work Day
The only explanation I can quickly find behind the purpose for this holiday is "Why should dogs have all the fun?" That's a good point. Cats are already bossy and lounge around our work spaces, so we might as well allow it one day a year.
23rd = National Pink Day
Basically, this is the day for both women and men to flaunt pink attire. It would be even better if it was on a Wednesday (*cough* Mean Girls).
24th = Midsummer Day
The point of Midsummer's Day is explained in its name. However, we need to bring back the tradition of having a bonfire to honor the sun.
25th = National Handshake Day
This holiday is held on the last Thursday of June. It's a time to remember how important first impressions can be.
People have been encouraged to bring their pooches to work on a Friday in June since Pet Sitters International created it in 1999. It serves as an awareness day for pet adoption.
27th = National Sunglasses Day
The Vision Council created this as a reminder of the importance of protecting your eyes against UV rays. The holiday has become very popular on social media, with celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres posting about it.
It's unknown whether or not insurance companies played any part in creating this holiday. My guess is someone who got ripped off by one of those companies is the mastermind behind this reminder to review their insurance policies.
29th = Hug Holiday
The purpose of this holiday is to visit nursing homes, hospitals, and any other places where there are people who could really use a warm, loving hug.
30th = World Social Media Day
Here's an idea for a Facebook post or an Instagram picture. Social media has become such a part of global communication, which is why Mashable felt it deserved a day of recognition.
And there you have it! Something to look forward to every day of the month! Which is your favorite? Which do you plan to celebrate? Personally, I'm looking forward to National Repeat Day...
