10 Words I Use to Describe Myself

*3-Minute Read*

I'm in a job search right now, so I've been thinking about interview questions. A common one is "What are three words that describe you?" Internally, I was only coming up with generic ones like "friendly," "humorous," and "team-player." So, I had to rack my brain to come up with some that are a little more unique:

1) Adaptable
I'm not really the homesick type. I've lived in three different states and been just fine. It doesn't take me too long to get accustomed to new environments... and to find aspects of it that I like better than the places I have lived in before. I think that's my secret. Find something you like and make it a part of your daily routine.

2) Conscientious
In recent years, I've realized that most of my anxiety is the fear of disappointing others. I'm definitely a people-pleaser and, mostly, it's a benefit. You want to be the person someone raves over, not the person that someone else rants about to their significant other. And you don't have to worry about karma too much.

3) Curious
I'm a nosy person. If there's something that interests me, I dig all the way to China... usually via Google. I'm not afraid to ask questions at this point, either. And, of course, I LOVE to read.

4) Decisive
I don't think there's any trick or tactic I can share with those who are indecisive. Honestly, I was blessed with an accurate gut instinct. There usually seems to be that option that is just obviously a better pick than the others. And the few times that doesn't happen? Watch out, because I'm a mess.

5) Introverted
It's 2020, and there's still no polite way to tell someone that you don't feel like being around him/her right now. While I like being around people, they definitely wear me out. So I definitely need alone time, a quiet moment to partake in individual activities.

6) Methodical
I guess this isn't a shock; I'm such a lister that I've based my whole blog around it. It's a way for me to make plans. I'm not super spontaneous, as I think it is a more difficult way to do anything. You don't know all of the dos and don'ts before you get yourself into something.

7) Open-Minded
Though I may not agree, I am respectful of everyone else's opinions (as long as they have at least minuscule amounts of logic). I am one who puts myself in other people's shoes to understand why they feel the way they do. Everyone has different origins and experiences, and this is usually why our opinions differ. I always think along the lines of If I had been living ___'s life, I may feel the same way he/she does

8) Persistent
Change doesn't always happen overnight. I mean, it took us nine months just to enter this world. At least, that's how I view life. And if everything was easy, life would be boring and our accomplishments wouldn't be nearly as impressive. That feeling of achieving something difficult is just indescribable; I couldn't imagine never experiencing that.

9) Realistic
At some point, I stop daydreaming and think about my day-to-day life. I didn't consider utilities during my apartment searches in college, because I'd be too busy studying to use them. I liked that my professors saw me as an up-and-coming writer and not the next David Sedaris. And I'm never friends with someone who is saccharine sweet. Let's all be honest, folks.

10) Stubborn
I absolutely hate it when people label this trait as solely a negative thing. Yeah, it can make one inflexible. But it can also result in high levels of individuality and/or common sense. I've never tried to change myself just to fit in with certain people and I've avoided many regrettable events just by not caving into peer pressure.

So, after many years, I can say that I'm mostly proud of who I am. I hope you all can say the same thing about yourselves, too!
