22 Reactions To My Grade School Coursework

*4-Minute Read*

About a month ago, the box spring of my bed broke. My dad and brother had to take the mattress off of my bed frame, and I realized that a binder from an English class had been under my bed all these years. And it turned out to be a cringeworthy read. To all my primary school teachers, I am so sorry you had to grade my work. I promise I have more common sense and intelligence now.

Anyways, I'd thought I'd share the highlights with y'all:

1) My Handwriting
It's a pretty cursive, but why in the name of Jesus, Joseph, and Mary is it that small? No wonder a teacher took off points for that once. My vision must be deteriorating or something, because it's painful to read my own notes now.

2) "[Character Name] was a towheaded boy..."
Is the meaning of the word "towheaded" supposed to be common knowledge? Because I'm 24 years old and just had to look it up. It's having light blond or untidy hair. Did I know that back then and just forgot now?

3) "[Character Name] is stubborn, hardheaded, and impatient..."
Girl, same.

4) "Metaphor: 'Like a bunch of scared jackrabbits.'"
Olivia Kathryn Heinen, that is clearly a simile.

5) A List of Background Information About the Story
Why would I number the first five statements correctly and then randomly start over on the sixth sentence? It's #6, Liv. Not #1.

6) Worksheet Grade = 30/30
You go, girl! Good for you, knowing all the characters.

7) A Chart of Characters' Information
Small handwriting aside, that is a beautiful chart for someone who has difficulty drawing a straight line. And it wasn't even on graph paper. Besides labeling one simile as a metaphor, I must've had it together back then.

8) "... she has many traits such as nosy, truthful, and intelligent."
Never mind, I did not have it together. First of all, teenage Liv, put a comma after "traits." Then, how about "curiosity" instead of "nosy," "honesty" instead of "truthful," and "intelligence" instead of "intelligent?" Now, that would be a good sentence.

9) "... she has many traits such as smart, caring, and honest."
This one is even worse. Put the dang comma after the word "traits." Replace "smart" with "intelligence," "caring" with "compassion," and "honest" with "honesty."

10) "[Character Name] is surprisingly round because you do see him as a dishonest child most of the time, but at the end, you see him nervous about something he has done and goes back to the [Family Name]."
And now we have a run-on sentence...

11) A Somewhat Incorrect Answer
Olivia, your teacher has a point. You have to be more specific than "she stands up for what is right." That could be a response to a lot of different situations.

12) A Two-Word Answer
I didn't even write one complete sentence here, but I answered the other questions with at least three sentences. I needed to stop trying to shortcut my way out of everything.

13) "Six vehicles surrounded the [Family Name] house and [Character #1] and [Character #2] demanded to see [Character #3] and I was shocked to see [Character #4] and [Character #5], who were a part of the crime, breaking open the house."
This run-on sentence is even longer than the last one. *Face palms*

14) Finding Examples of Figurative Language
I found only two examples of personification instead of five. And "Onomatopoeia" followed by a colon and nothing else is not an answer, Olivia.

15) 13 Points Taken of a Worksheet
I didn't answer one out of four questions, so there goes a quarter of my grade. And what was my answer to the first question? "The following events contributed to [Character Name]'s coming of age:" Where are the events? Liv, that is not an answer!

16) 20/20 on Vocabulary Quiz #1
Well, I guess. After the atrocity on the previous worksheet...

17) 28/30 on Vocabulary Quiz #2
I lost two points for defining the word "moronic" as "like a moron." :/

18) 18/20 on Vocabulary Quiz #3
I defined "reverently" as "feeling and showing reverence" and "reluctantly" as "reluctance." Such creativity there.

19) 34/38 on Vocabulary Quiz #4
Okay, I actually tried this time, y'all. The questions I missed were difficult.

20) Graph of a Summary of the Book
Another beautiful chart that isn't on graph paper. :)

21) 44/44 on a Literary Terms Quiz
It looks like I may have gotten it together after all.

22) 41.5/40 on a Quiz over Two Chapters
Dang, I don't know where the extra 1.5 came from, but I was/am not complaining!

I highly suggest digging around for your old schoolwork (if you didn't burn it on the last day of school or something). It'll probably amuse you
