4 Things to Do in Crystal Beach, Texas

*2-Minute Read*

Crystal Beach is a small town on Texas's Bolivar Peninsula, northeast of Galveston. It's where my family and I are at at this point of our hurrication. While I've been to Galveston numerous times, this is my first time to Crystal Beach. Galveston is a diamond in the rough, but Crystal Beach is more like a hidden gem. I'd never heard of it until recently, so what is there to do?

1) The Beach

The sand isn't as white as snow. The water is murky. You may have to dodge cars. But it's still a nice place to take a walk, throw a frisbee, or take group pictures alongside the Gulf of Mexico. I personally would suggest taking a golf cart ride there. It's filled with people who either bought or are renting a camp. They're quite big places at low prices, and pretty much all of them have balconies with some sort of beach view.

2) The Ferry

If you drive south of the city limits for just around five minutes, you'll run into the ferry boarding en route to Galveston. This is a drive-on ferry, so it's huge. As soon as it starts moving, you're allowed to get out of your car and look around. There's even an upstairs observation room. We saw a lot of porpoises the day we were there, and they're so cute.

3) Fun Spot Waterslide

Its name is a tad misleading... there's two slides parallel to each other. It's a perfect spot to race a family member or friend down a hill. The price tag is $10 for an hour or $20 for the entire day.

4) The Gulf Range

This is "where golfing meets the gulf." It is a 18-hole, 36-par miniature golf course. It's also a family saloon (restaurant) with salads, nachos, hot dogs, pizzas, pulled pork, and sandwiches. There's always games like Giant Jenga and horseshoes and sometimes concerts or other events.

Yeah, the attractions aren't endless, but it's a nice place for a weekend trip. And don't forget about Galveston and all the other nearby towns.
