6 Aspects of the Forest Oasis at The Woodlands Resort
*3-Minute Read*
As I mentioned a few days ago, I'm currently on a hurrication (hurricane vacation). We're at a camp in Crystal Beach now, but we were at The Woodlands Resort for three nights. It's in The Woodlands, Texas (north of Houston) and has a huge pool area called the Forest Oasis. We've been here many times throughout my childhood, but why? What makes it so great?
1) Main Pool
This pool is shaped like a "Y." You can walk directly into the longest section before it becomes deeper. There's nothing on the left side but, on the right side, there's a basketball net dangling above the water. However, the left section of the "Y," you'll find that some of the floor is covered with "sand" and artwork of underwater creatures and pirate accessories. There's even a treasure chest with water spurting out. This is far different from the right section of the "Y," which is essentially a water volleyball court.
2) Water Slides
There are four total. The smallest slide is actually made up of rock, yet it isn't painful. It is a kiddie slide that has a fountain on either side. You slide from an upper smaller pool into the "Y" pool. Two other slides feed into this smaller pool. They are identical green slides coined "Morgan's Run." I would say the speed level is medium. The last slide feeds into the lazy river (I'll get to that in a bit.) It is a brown slide that is slower than Morgan's Run.
3) Kiddie Area
This area is just behind the left section of the "Y" pool. It consists of a splash zone and baby pool. They both range from average to slightly above average in terms of size. A beneficial aspect, though, is the increased number of chairs for parents to watch their kiddos from. Some of them are even underneath an overhang.
4) Restaurant
Cool Wave Cafe is just behind the right section of the "Y" pool. It consists of a bar and several tables. The eatery offers a variety of food (I love the chicken strips) and drinks (especially alcoholic).
5) "Adult Area"
I put this name in quotations, because it is simply what I've named it. Apparently, the pool used to be for adults only. It is no longer that, but it is still a "no lifeguard on duty pool." There's a beautiful fountain flowing into it that looks like the one flowing into the "Y" pool, only larger. There's also artwork of frogs and lily pads at the bottom. To the left of the pool, there's a basic hot tub that's surrounded by bushes. I like how it gives the feel of being more private, even though it truly isn't. Behind all of this are four cabanas and this other area that I'm not quite sure what they do with it.
6) Lazy River
This is the newest addition to Forest Oasis. It is a solid lazy river. It's pretty long, fairly wide, and quite wavy (almost too much). Interestingly enough, it's so close to the golf course that the majority of the river is underneath a large net. After all, it is not fun to have a golf ball hit you in the head!
I'd recommend this place for a weekend vacation. It's not a full-fledge waterpark, but there's a lot more to Forest Oasis than your everyday pool. But, don't pay for a room facing it. In some of the other rooms, you can still see the pool and it's a LOT cheaper.
