*2-Minute Read*

I'm not trying to be negative on what's supposed to be a positive post
but, metaphorically, we all missed that jump last year.

Okay, let's face it. 2020 sucked. It was no one's year, but that doesn't mean that everything went wrong. Here are some instances where things went right:

1) Keith Walker, a homeless man, saved every animal from a burning shelter in Atlanta.

A GoFundMe page has raised over $80,000 for him.

2) Ocean Voyages Institute broke the record for the largest amount of plastic removed from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.

The Hawaii group removed 103 tons of fishing nets and consumer plastics.

3) Canadian scientists believe they've found a cure for diabetes.

Dr. James Shapiro successfully cured the disease in mice.

4) Crabs may be able to save coral reefs in Florida.

These "reef goats" eat the invasive seaweed that is threatening the reefs' existence.

5) Tyler Skluzacek invented an app to help stop his father's PTSD nightmares.

Nightware is helpful for Patrick Skluzaceksaw, and it should be available by prescription soon.

6) Starbucks gave free coffee to first-line responders.

This lasted for the entire month of December.

7) A cure for cancer seems to be coming closer.

A genome editing system permanently destroyed cancer cells in a lab.

8) Goldie Hawn started online mindfulness lessons for free.

The app is called MindUp

9) Firefighters from Mexico assisted with the California wildfires.

100 men and women arrived in the US on September 23rd.

10) The first-ever Happiness Museum was opened on July 14th.

It is located in Copenhagen, Denmark.

11) Operation Not Forgotten rescued 26 missing children.

This was all done in just two weeks in Georgia.

12) The first person with Down Syndrome graduated from Rowan University.

Anna Rose Rubright got a BA in Radio, Television, and Film and a minor in Journalism this May.

13) The first female MLB coach was hired.

Alyssa Nakken was promoted to a coaching position for the San Francisco Giants.

14) A Galapagos tortoise single-handedly saved his species.

He was returned to his home in March after having 800 offspring.

15) The Zodiac Killer's message was decoded.

Amateur sleuths were able to figure it out after 50 years.

16) The babysitter from "Borat" received over $184,000 from GoFundMe.

She had been duped into starring into the film.

17) A boy with autism got a publishing deal.

Benjamin Giroux's poem about his autism was turned into a children's book by Schiffer Publishing.

18) Nineteen healthcare providers stayed at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital during Hurricane Laura to care for nineteen babies in the neonatal intensive care unit.

This was in my hometown, y'all!

19) Dr. Fauci got some well-deserved recognition.

If the Kardashians are public figures, then individuals like Fauci should definitely be as well.

20) The. COVID-19. Vaccine.

Let's hope it ends the pandemic.

Now, let's stay positive for 2021!
